After many years of struggling to qualify and then starting my professional journey, I kept finding myself saying “I wish someone had told me that!”
Along the way, I realised that my passion lies in teaching. I started lecturing Auditing for the Chartered Accounting and ACCA qualifications. I love helping people understand things, and obviously, I never want them to use those words “I wish someone had told me that” So, now I teach. Not in front of a class, and not always ‘topic-based’ stuff.
Technology is amazing. I can reach so many more students than if I was in a class. And in so many more ways. From online courses, to articles, to videos and support groups, there are more and more ways to ‘talk’ to people than ever before.
Here's what I do:
'Finance in Style' is my online classroom. I cover Auditing topics that simplify concepts and exam technique for students studying their BComs, CTA, Audit and Assurance exams (F8 and P7), or any other Audit subjects.
We always tell students to do questions, but it can be tough to figure out what to fix when you mark your own work, nevermind HOW to fix it! So, I do feedback courses. Do a question, mark it, send it to me, and I'll tell you whether you're marking accurately, what you need to work on, and very importantly... HOW to work on it. I focus on what to do to improve your marks as soon as possible, and where you need to, or don't need to, study theory. (My cat, Thunder, helps out with the marking!)
I work from home, so there's always something going on in the background. Mainly my cats. They don't like sharing my attention with a computer screen. (Sorry for all the videos you watch with cat's crying in the background!).
